"Intelligence [is more important], because we need it in our daily lives especially in work. We need it more than beauty." Lara May Trinidad confidently answered during the coronation night of Mr. and Ms. PCHS 2014 at Pampanga Central High School San Simon, Pampanga.
Standing with the height of 4'11, Trinidad captured the attention of the judges and the crowd as she stand high-spirited beside 19 other contenders. Though lacking in height compared to others, this 15-year-old lady proved that she does not lack brain and beauty.
Her charm and charisma fused with her fearless aura made her stand out among the rest. By the end of the competition, she proved that she is definitely small but terrible by owning the crown and reign as Ms. PCHS 2014. She also bagged both minor and major awards such as Best in Long Gown, Most Photogenic, Ms. Close-up smile and Student's Choice Award.
"Hindi ko iniisip na makukuha ko yung mga award na 'to, dahil na rin siguro sa maliit ako. Ginawa ko na lang yung best ko," Trinidad exclaims.
But just like any other beauty pageant, every candidate has their own instinct of who they are threatened of. Trinidad already has the beauty, brain, and confidence to walk on stage, even her supporters were pretty confident about her winning the crown, but she thinks otherwise.
"Simula pa lang ng practice, though hindi ko naman ine-expect na mananalo ako, natatakot ako kay Nina [Balboa]. Ang lakas kasi ng dating niya, [tapos] ang dami niya pang supporters." Trinidad explains while sharing her experience on how she overcame her fear with Nina's presence on stage and on crowd. Nina Balboa is a 9th grader representing her class section grade 9-Galileo, and has such confidence in the competition.
Upon her winning, she thanked the support of her class section, adviser, friends and her family. Indeed, she made a big difference.
