Northwest University’s Dean, College of Chemical Engineering conducted a lecture talk regarding climate change and human roles headed by the Confucius Institute at Bulacan State University (BulSU), Hostel, on February 17.
In cooperation with Bulacan State University’s External Affairs, Dr. Ma Xiaoxun from Northwest University in China, also an environmentalist was invited by the Confucius Institute at Bulacan State University to conduct a seminar in sharing his knowledge and expertise when it comes to global warming issue. The seminar was entitled “Global Warning and Human Activities”.
According to Dr. Cecilia Geronimo, Vice President for External Affairs, the lecture aims to open awareness to everyone as it is a vital matter in present time as she advised the students to listen carefully to what Dr. Xiaoxun will explain.
Dr. Xiaoxun emphasized certain cases such as weather disturbances through the use of a power point presentation. His presentation focused on the main challenges human beings faces at present, emission of human contamination, climate crisis of global warming and its causes such as vehicles, power plants and industries.
He also showed in a Powerpoint presentation the carbon emissions of countries like USA, China and India.
“Because everyone is the cause of global warming”, he said as a motivation and challenge to the students.
On the other hand, the students enjoyed and learned a lot in the seminar in spite of the speaker’s difficulty in pronouncing the English language.
“So tayo talagang mga tao dapat ibahin na natin ‘yung pamumuhay natin kasi naapektuhan yung Mother Earth. Kasi ang balik nito ay sa’tin din eh. Sa speaker naman, okay ‘yung pagpapaliwanag niya.,”Julian Abie Dela Cruz from BSED I-G said.
Meanwhile, Mellyrose Deloria, also a freshman education student who’s currently having a Mandarin class this semester expressed her thoughts about the seminar.
“Hindi natin siya pwedeng isisi sa environment (climate change), tayo din mismo ‘yung gumagawa ng dahilan para masira ‘yung mundo natin. ‘Yung speaker po alam niya talaga ‘yung nirereport niya.”, Deloria concluded.
The said program was attended by the students from College of Arts and Letters, College of Education and College of Home Economics under their Mandarin class. The lecture was part of the Confucius Institute’s activities in BulSU.
