Crowded places and tight traffic succumbed through the streets of the municipality of Guiguinto as it celebrated its annual Halamanan Festival, January 21-23, Guiguinto.
Opening rites for the festival was held at the quadrangle of the municipal hall, with veteran actress Susan Roces serving as one of its guests during the ceremony. The event also coincided with the 100th anniversary of the Guiguinto Foundation.
Celebration continued on with the traditional Indakan sa Kalye featuring different participants from barangays in Guiguinto. Indakan sa Kalye was considered as the grand street dance festival. It highlighted the Guiguiteños talent in landscaping, propagation seedling, plant growing, interior decorating, flower cutting and arrangement.
This resulted to minimal road reblockings within the area to give way for the event. Following this, Sundaluhan was also in line for the first day of celebration.
Street fairs and tiangges were the main attractions during the festival, with the showcase of different plant species. Members of the town’s Garden City Association exhibited the talents of Guiguinto residents with its landscaping, dish gardens and topiary collections. This also led to various setting of different delicacies that made Guiguinto a Garden Capital of the Philippines
“Nakakatuwa na until now wala pa ring kakupas-kupas ang Guiguinto, ‘di talaga nahuhuli pagdating sa mga ganitong fiesta. Proud na Guiguinteno ako, and I’m sure mas sasaya pa ‘to sa mga daraang taon,” says Micha, a high school student from Guiguinto.
Concluding the three-day festival was the Gawad Gintong Halaman awards ceremony, where in several recognitions were awarded to the best float, and awardees for service in the municipality.
